Resonators – RES02
In the atmospheric Arches, a collaborative sound installation made by The Resonators - a collective of people with lived refugee experience, working with West End Refugee Service, Skimstone Arts' Claire Webster Saaramets and artist Martin Heslop. For the past few months they have been walking the city together, exploring the urban and natural sounds of Newcastle – listening, making field-recordings and writing. Where are the places of sonic sanctuary within the city? What does Newcastle sound like through the ears – and through the histories and memories – of people newly-arrived here? The resulting piece is an immersive multilingual composition that explores the rich connections between sound, memory and imagination: the different ways that people listen, the different voices that emerge. This is the second work in an ongoing series, RES01 was the first piece the group made, a sound installation for Refugee Week in June 2023. RES03 will be installed in the Ouseburn Valley for Ouseburn Festival on 15 and 16 July 2023.
