In 2023, Daniel Palacios González won the MSA First Book Award for his monograph De fosas comunes a lugares de memoria. La práctica monumental como escritura de la historia. The book is a unique contribution to Memory Studies, as the author has studied the memories of mass graves from the Spanish Civil War by combining methods from digital humanities and ethnographic fieldwork. The results go far beyond his case studies and are relevant for all researchers working on the memories of mass killings and social practices around monuments. In the panel, Daniel Palacios González will discuss his work with Alejandro Baer and Magdalena Saryusz-Wolska. The representatives of the MSA will also present the new format of the Book Award which from 2023 has been open to monographs published in any language.
