A Wounded Landscape: Bearing Witness to the Holocaust by Marc Wilson, combines contemporary imagery, maps, and personal testimonies. It serves as a reminder of the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their collaborators across a vast and varied landscape, where persecution often began in the places the victims called home.
Between 1939 and 1945, almost six million Jews and others were systematically murdered across Europe. The physical scars of the Nazi's campaign of persecution and destruction still mar the European landscape. While some places, such as Dachau, Belsen, and Auschwitz are widely known; most others have been reabsorbed into our everyday world over time. Located in cities, towns, villages, fields, and forests, they were places where life or death decisions were made, yet they are also sites of hope, survival, and memory.
